My 2 months internship in Mumbai
I’ve got Internship in a Mumbai based company regarding
landscaping for about 2 months. Today is the first day of my journey to Mumbai from
Coimbatore and hoping for the best. I don’t know how the Mumbai will be and I
heard that there must be some communication problem
as I’m a Tamilian don’t know Hindi and Marathi to speak but can write as well as read in Hindi. Myself and my friend both are going for the internship.Though we got the internship we coudn't find a place for stay and the normal rent for 2 months in Mumbai will be Rs.25000 for 2 persons it seems anyhow my classmate's father helped us to get stay there finally with our affordable budget.

Actually we have booked the ticket for 3 tier A/c in a hurry
before a month but most of the seats were found to be empty. But Lol it’s
somewhat expensive (Rs.1600/head OMG!!!). This is the first time I’m traveling
in an A/c coach (though it's not a big deal :P) .
Hope I will reach Lokmanya Tilak Terminus on Saturday on the correct time as per the railway at 2.30 P.M.
Day 2: 08/08/2015
Day 2: 08/08/2015
Nearby seat a Tamilian was there he is actually working in Chhatrapati Shivaji museum and his wife also came along with him. They are nice people and gave company to us by chatting, giving breakfast (I tasted a best lemon rice in my life it may due to non-availability of tasty south Indian food in train journey :P though I hate the lemon rice ) . When we came across lonavala he insisted us to watch the tunnels and the surroundings wow!! I was totally wondered. Because the places were splendid with full of green especially grass, it’s due to rainy season he added. I could remember that we must crossed more than 12 tunnels. The place was like ooty and kodaikanal may be even more than that in terms of climate. He gave his number and said call if you need any help when we come to Chhatrapati Shivaji museum if it possible. There is one more person to mention here he is Karthick who is working in Kalyan jwellers in Mumbai. He also gave his number and said call me if you have faced any issues in Mumbai and said we can find Tamilians here and no problem it's a safest city . He was also my near by seat.
As per the time we have reached Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and our classmate's dad came to pick up us. But, we faced a problem to come to the exit as he mentioned and we tried to speak English with many people about how to get the exit but they hadn’t speak English. However a guy called Raghul (Doing D.Pharm in Navi Mumbai ) talked with us in good English and helped us to know about exit place. Meanwhile our classmate’s dad was came near to us and we found him and somehow we managed the situation.
When we traveled from the station to Kandivali west in car I came across many buildings which are very high and the bridges were so long. Believe me Mumbai is the city will rank number 1 when compared with Chennai, Coimbatore and Hyderabad according to my knowledge. Our classmate’s dad helped us in every step in getting the stay place and clearing issues like police verification, agreements and especially he got us to the company where we are going to do Internship. Actually we informed the company that we reached Mumbai and all but he didn’t expect that we would come on the day within 2 hours after reaching Mumbai. All were introduced themselves and they talked about so much about their career, I was just surprised how could be a man from Periyakulam ( a place in TamilNadu where the company’s owner is from) speak English that much fluently and knew about landscaping in very deep. Within the 15 minutes conversation we confirmed that myself and my friend made a correct decision in doing the internship because both the Mumbai city and the company inspired us in the first look itself like saying ‘First impression is the best impression’ . He told us to come on Monday at 6.45 A.M with proper dress ( ¾ th or trousers were not allowed awww …) but T shirts are allowed it gave us hope.
Few people are also staying in the Pg house and we met Hemanth who is staying with us , he is doing IT in IBM and he said he is from UP and an easy guy to approach. He made us more comfortable and hope We will know the remaining guys as well in a week.Vishal and Srinivas are the two guys who are working with my classmate's dad also helped in this stay problem and told us ''Just learn Hindi so it will help you out and tell your friends too'' . If I were a place, I should learn the language which is spoken there. So I'm going to follow that and I'm planning to post the daily interesting news here which I'll get through.

Day 3 09/08/2015
Accidentally I got up at 12.40 A.M and it was my bad luck I got
a personal problem with my friend (may call as crush :P ). Yes, finally we
found a road side restaurant in the morning 8.45 A.M which runs by Tamil guys from
Tirunelveli said by Hemanth (UP guy) . He provided as a plate of 3 idlis (I
think it's rice cake in English) and 2 medhu vadai (Don't know the English name
:P ) of price Rs.25. It was tasty and cheaper too. As we heard there will be
lot Bazaars in Mumbai where all the items will be cheaper so tried to find
Bazaars. I believe we couldn't bazaars there in Kandivali west because the
price was normal in those shops which we thought they are bazaars. Finally we
returned to room while returning we went to a shop which was introduced by our
Pg home helper (used to involve in cleaning activities in home) Dinesh bhai.
The shop was neither a bakery nor a hotel, it is between that. The said the
rice will be Rs.60 per plate with 3 -4 additional items I didn't know what they
are and we came to a conclusion that Rs.30 per plate of rice with Dhal and it
sounded good to both of us. The funniest part is he don’t know English and we
don't Hindi so he made a guy in that shop to converse with us our bad luck he couldn't speak . So the hotel owner and ourselves tried to understand that what
we are speaking he he. As same like others he insisted learn Hindi or Marathi
OMG!! .Then it went like normal Sunday by wasting time by watching TV and
making tea in our kitchen and we shared our tea to our friends in the Pg home
they said it is well and good when compared with the tea made by Dinesh helper
who gave us yesterday evening because we are the new guests and it was our
first day in the home. All credits goes to my friend Vignesh who made that tea
and I requested him to make tea with little more sugar he he because I used to
drink like that. The time came 8.00 P.M dinner time so we went to the same
hotel where we had our lunch and the price of a plate containing 4 chapatti’s (Rs.5/chapatti)
and Kurma (Rs.15) is RS.35.
So totally we have to spend Rs.90 per for food in Mumbai. Why
I’m always giving details means everybody can know Mumbai is a city for middle
class families also and one can survive with neat food at rate of Rs.100 per
day and even spending less than Rs.100.
Tomorrow we have to be report the company at 6.45 A.M and we
will be going to visit sites I believe.
Day 4 10/08/2015 - A best day
5.30 A.M alarm (seriously it's midnight when you ask me :P ) and everything had finished up my friend prepared tea and also gave me cup Thanks Vignesh :D . Picked a auto near our home and actually they are good because as per the meter they are charging in Mumbai hats off to them and he helped us to reach the company which is 3 km away from the home and charged Rs. 28 for 2 persons (I believe he charged as per the meter who knows ).
Our company car picked us from there and we had gone to Alibag,it took 3.30 hrs I think to reach.
Day 5 11/08/2015
Day 6 - 12/08/2015
Today is my birthday and my last birthday in the college life. Iam very happy that being here in Mumbai. Weared nice blue shirt which I bought yesteday while comin to room and favourite shoes. Nobody in my office didn't know my b'day and I never said untill the day ends actually it's not a big deal.
As per schedule we had to do design in Auto Cad of the rough diagram which we drew yesterday. But Mr.Sir called us and explained some details about pumps that how to find the head loss, flow rate and how much water emitted can be seen per second through a traingular nozzle etc.
He gave a sheet where a design was there and 4 triangular nozzles were present and water coming forom the head to the end point through pipe of 100m lenghth with 1 elbow (can say it as L shaped bending) . He simply told us to calculate the amount of water which will be released by the nozzle per second with the pipe diameter of 65mm.
He gave some catalogues of some popular pump companies where we can find the correct one which is required for the project by knowiing the datas from the calculation.
Truely speaking we just failed in that calculation and simply find out the volume of the traingular nozzle (cone shaped) by 1/3 pi r2 h :P and the nozzle is not simple as you think it has an inner traingular shape at a distance of 6mm from the main taingular nozzle so we have to find the volume of the water flow from the nozzle between both outer and inner traingular shaed nozzle for one second .We found the volume of outer triangle and inner traingle with difference of 6mm of hight, radius from the outer triangle because the inner triangle is 6mm away from the outer triangle and concluded that the difference between the volume of outer and inner volume of the trainle will be the volume of water flow between the outer and inner traingles per second .We calculated the same thing for all the 4 nozzles and got some volume which we didn't whether it is right or wrong.
There is one more task given to us i.e friction head loss ,we had to find the friction head loss but till now I couldn't get the correct explanation for that but somehow understood like loss of the flow speed of water due to the friction, presence of bending, elbow pumps which may reduce the flow speed of water. Correct it if am wrong :D .
Darcy-Weisbach equation - source Engineeringtoolbox.com
f = 0.2083 (100 / c)1.852 q1.852 / dh4.8655
where
f = friction head loss in feet of water per 100 feet of pipe (fth20/100 ft pipe)
c = Hazen-Williams roughness constant (take it as 150)
q = volume flow (gal/min)
dh = inside hydraulic diameter (inches)
We found the volume of water which is flow from the 4 traingular nozzle per second so we assumed that it might be the flow rate or atleast it wouldn't wrong much beacause the very least amount of water flow in the pipe shouldn't be less than the flow of water from the nozzle per second If it is less than that how can pipe will supply the water which is the basic minimum requirement of water which will be flow from the triangular nozzle per second.
So we had ,
Flow rate i.e q , c = 150 as normal ,dh (we took the diameter of the pipe) and found one answer finally.
Again we showed it to Mr. Sir and we said everything about the assumptions which we had done to find the answers and told him we are not sure so pleace check it and correct it If I was wrong.
It took us entire day to workout that which is already taught in my college but we couldn't finout answers with full confident . These problems will also come to you when you are not at all listening the class for even 5 minutes as like me :P . But it's not the time for blaming myself so no problem at all it is.Meantime after lunch he gave DDBR (Detailed Design Basic Report) of a water pond and told us to read it then we will get more knowledge about the pumps and also how to know abou the informations regarding to setting of water pond with flowing facility. It will take take another post so am just ending it up guys.
Mr. Sir said he will calculate it and discuss with us tomorrow. Hope we will learn it tomorrow atleast.
I have to thank my friends because they ended my day with happiness by wishes and special thanks to my class grls (few) who actually don't like me but wished me .
Day 7 - 13/08/2015
Today we mostly spent our time with Cad designer vipul and the daybefore rough design are converted into cad designs today. In the morning while drawing the garden in CAd Mr. Sir called us and said you guys would have been know some basics in Cad so do it in your spare time and BOQ (Bill of quantity) is the today's thing which is more important, he added further. He also gave some catalogues of Paver,Pavit which should be known to us beacuse it is more important in pathways, parking areas etc.
Questions in my mind (What about the yesterday calculation ? Is our anwers right? will he discuss that?). Suddenly he said we wil discuss about the pumps later because I'm bussy with some issues.
So as Mr. Sir said said vipul he helped us to know about BOQ and he was doing both Cad design & BOQ of the garden both at a time. Somewhat we learnt to calculate BOQ but not completely I could say.BOQ also took an entire day because Vipul completed only one garden design in Cad with lot of modifications added my Mr.sir like sitting area in garden, Pergola, Benches,Tennis court etc. So every modifications changed the BOQ which took the entire day.
In the evening he said us tomorrow we are going to Lonovala (lovely place which I had already discussed in my day of internship) and an electrical engineer expert is going to take care of us for 1 week and the main thing is we are going to see the India's first big dancing fountain which made possible by Mr. Sir. We are surprised by every words of him it is like a well saying "Karumbu thinna kooliya? " which means Will you expect that someone is giving you money for having coffee ? ( my translation :P ).
Waiting for tomorrow eagerly to see the beauty of Lonavala and the dancing fountain. Omg Iam going to work there thanks to Mr. Sir .
Day 4 10/08/2015 - A best day
5.30 A.M alarm (seriously it's midnight when you ask me :P ) and everything had finished up my friend prepared tea and also gave me cup Thanks Vignesh :D . Our company car picked us from there and we had gone to Alibag,it took 3.30 hrs I think to reach.
Day 5 11/08/2015
We got up lately and had the breakfast in hurry because we
should be in Office at 10 A.M but the time was already 9.45 A.M anyhow we got an
auto which could make us to reach the office on time. But Vipul (Auto Cad
designer ) who is going to take us to a site where measurement should be taken
, plants should be identified and their location should be noted , make a
diagram and try to implement it in CAD possibly said by Mr. Sir ( The company’s
owner ) yesterday. When we entered the office a helper who couldn’t understand
our English anyhow we managed that and waited for Vipul but we couldn’t find
him even after 11 A.M it might be due to Mr.sir because he is not available today.
Vipul took us to the site where apartment is there and two gardens are there
one is compiled with children’s park. My friend vignesh drew a diagram resembling
the children’s park garden and Vipul told him to identify the plant location
and write the plants name if he can .Myself and Vipul went to the other garden
and decided to draw the garden first then going for the measuring. It had been
rain so we just ended up the measuring at 1 A.M and had lunch near the office
in Tamilian hotel (they are all over here) the dosa is Rs.20 only so no problem
at all and taste also very good. Vignesh showed his drawing before lunch in the
site I think he drew at least 4 copies and wasted 3 due to rain he said. We again
went to the site at 2.30 P.M and planned to complete remaining work within 2
hrs. Actually I and Vipul completed the measuring distance between plants to plants,
trees to plants, light poles to plants etc. for 3 sides comprising 4 sides so
only side was remained. This time we all three gathered there because Vignesh
said he could join with us so he can also learn how to measure and it will make
the work very fast if we all get together and within 30 minutes we measured the
distance of the remained side and they planned to move to the Children’s park
garden but I tried to name the plants which is already located in the diagram
so this garden’s whole data will be done so I named the plants, trees in the
paper but I couldn’t identify 4 trees among that one is completely new to me because
the leaves of the tree is completely resembled Moringa leaves except the barks
and all.
When googled I get to know about Moringa Stenopetala the tree in the garden somewhat matched with this tree but amn't sure about it and I will correct it soon when I get verified.
Want to know about the difference between normal moringa(Moringa Oleifera)and Moringa Stenopetala ?
Then go to this website www.healingmoringatree.com
They said we can take photographs of them and Mr.sir will help us out to identify the names. So it’s the time for children’s park garden which is larger in size compared to the other garden and the plants, trees, light poles are also many. So it would take more time to measure the distance between plants to plants, trees, poles etc. Rather the other garden, this garden had more curves so measurement can be done by measuring perpendicular distance from centre of arc(green colour line in the picture below ) to the midpoint of measuring line from initial point of curve to the final point of the curve (red colour line). So by using this measurement a curve can be drawn easily in the Auto CAD.

A security room was
there in this L shaped Children’s park garden in one edge near entrance so we
should take the measurement of the security room it made us really anger
because we are totally exhausted by doing the same thing measurements from the
morning anyhow Vignesh already made the diagram of the garden and located the
plants, trees, light poles in the diagram and named the plants also so our job
is to measure the distance now. Seriously it took us up to 5.00 P.M with lot of
misunderstanding between us.
Blue lines are lines which are needed to take measures for
drawing the curves correctly using perpendicular measurements from the arc to
the lines (arrow).
Finally at 5 P.M we completed the measurements work and took
some photos of the garden because we can check it later if we find any
difficult in designing the garden in Auto Cad tomorrow and humans will make
mistakes but not machines (here camera) and most of the plants are common
plants so all plants were identified like Raphis , Polyalthia , Areca palm,
Dracena etc .
We went to the buildings 13th floor for the
aerial view of the garden to take photographs so it will help us in Auto Cad
drawing and we took photographs of the garden as well as ours and reached the
office at 5.30 P.M.
Actually I done a mistake that was I just forgot the diary (where
some drawings are done) which was kept in a bench of the garden while measuring
.But Vipul didn’t get any anger and gave us Rs.60 for up and down auto charge though it was my fault,
me and vignesh went there again and took the Diary and came to office, It might
be 6 P.M I believe.
From the mistakes which I have done and ideas from Vipul we
learnt the basics which is needed to design in Auto Cad especially the
measurements.
