Window garden making (DIY)
Window garden is very popular nowadays!!
We can see lot of houses, buildings where plant containers/pots were placed near the windows which they call as window garden crap :P .Mostly in appartments,IT companies, Hotels were they are very much interested in having plants near the windows.
Simply I will explain the planning and making of a window garden which we done it in my college that will be follow as
Before going to make a window garden we should consider some factors which affect the growth, of the plants, aesthetic value .
1.Pots
2.Media
3.Plants
1.POTS
Pots are more important thing when we think about doing gardening.Mostly Terracota pots are very attractive however it depends on people. In terracota pots you can have better drainage facility but incase of plastic pots somewhat drainage is difficult compared with terracota pots. But today we are going to use only plastic pots.
2.Media
There are lot of media available but my prefference is always Coir pith / Coco peat because it can hold more than 20% water of its weight and less weight.Normal Sand,Red soil,Farmyard manure 1:2:1.
3.Plants
It depends on the area where we going to make window garden and besed on the light availability also plants can be selected.Plants which are having tolerance to shade as well as light are more suitable for window garden because sometimes the window will give partial shade in the morning and partial light in the afternoon or vice versa. But it's not always have to be.
We used Plastic pots,Coir pith,Sand,Red soil,FYM and Portulaca plant.

We just removed the debris, clods, stone from the media and put it in the pots.
We took the Portulaca plant and sown in the respective pots gently.
Finally the pots got ready and we just took thos pots and placed it near window.
See How simple this, window garden. Finally we irrigated the plant using Rosecan and periodical irrigation should be given and periodical checking of pots, plants also be done to alter plants/pots if the damaged, diseased or died.
Myself and my friends did this window garden in my college and it was a awesome experience by doing with friends.
It's my First post regarding horticulture and I hope there will be more posts soon.
